MILTIADIS PALIOURAS

Miltiadis Paliouras, Ph.D. (Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine, McGill University), received his Ph.D. from McGill University in 2005 in field of developmental biology. He then proceeded to do his post-doctoral studies at the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute at Mount Sinair Hospital- University of Toronto, studying the genetic regulation of human tissue kallikreins in neoplastic tissue. He followed this work with another post-doctoral fellowship at the Lady Davis Institute at the Jewish General Hospital-McGill University focusing on novel properties of the androgen receptor in prostate cancer.

DR. MARK TRIFIRO

Dr. Mark Trifiro received his M.D. degree at McGill University and subsequently completed his internal medicine training at McGill University affiliated health institutions. He then finished an Endocrine Fellowship training program at Harvard University, Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by an Endocrine Research Fellowship at the Howard Hughes Research Laboratory at Harvard. He returned to Montreal to complete a further Research Fellowship at the Clinical Research Institute of Montreal.

PROF. ANDREW KIRK

Andrew Kirk received the Ph.D. degree in Physics from King’s College (London) in 1992 in the area of diffractive micro-optics and was subsequently awarded research fellowships to undertake postdoctoral research at the University of Tokyo, Japan and the Vrije Universiteit, Brussels, Belgium. A member of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at McGill since 1996, he currently holds a James McGill Chair. He is author of more than 200 journal articles and conference presentations and holds 4 patents.His research interests are focused on the integration of micro- and nano-photonic components for biosensing and telecommunications. In 2015 he was awarded the William and Rhea Seath Award for Engineering Innovation by McGill’s Faculty of Engineering for his work on new tools for DNA amplification using nanophotonic techniques. He is also an engaged teacher, having twice been awarded the Principal’s Prize for Excellence in Teaching at McGill. He currently serves as Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and has previously served as Interim Dean of Engineering and Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education. He is a former Chair of the IEEE Photonics Society Nanophotonics Technical Committee and has recently completed a term as an elected member of the Photonics Society Board of Governors.
